Strawberry Hill National School , Roll# 20553G , is inviting applicants for the position of Deputy Principal Teacher.
The school is a DEIS Band 1 school with a Catholic Ethos and is under the Patronage of Bishop Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross . It currently has 337 pupils with 17 Mainstream Classes and 3 Special Classes (Autism). It is the base school for the Cork East Supply Panel. The staff comprises 41 teachers including a HSCL Teacher and 2 EAL teachers as well as 16 SNAs. The ancillary staff are key to our success and partnerships with the community ensure best outcomes for our pupils.

In accordance with Section 22 of the Education Act, 1998, and Section 23 of the Education (Amendment) Act 2012, the Deputy Principal occupies a position of vital importance within the senior leadership team in a school. The Deputy Principal carries out roles and responsibilities integral to the administration, leadership and management of the school. The Deputy Principal co-operates with the Principal in the fulfilment of the Principal’s role and acts or deputises as the Principal in the Principal’s absence.

This is a permanent teaching position. The appointment will be made via open competition. The process will follow the regulations and procedures as set out in Circular 0044/2019.
The roles and responsibilities of the post of Deputy Principal Teacher are determined by the four Domains of Leadership and Management as set out in chapter 4 of the Circular.
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The responsibilities of the role will require participation in the leadership role outside of the standard school day and outside of the standard school year.

The duties attached to the role involve
- leading the School Self Evaluation process towards identification of clear DEIS action targets with particular focus on Numeracy, Literacy and Wellbeing
- whole school curricular development
- policy development
- day-to-day management of personnel and resources
- long term strategic planning for the future development of the school.

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria :
Fully registered under Route 1 (Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching service , two of which must be in a recognised primary school in the Republic of Ireland

• Effective interpersonal communication and people management skills and a proven ability to work as a member of a team in a collaborative manner extending to staff and external agencies
• A commitment to shared leadership, to developing leadership capacity and to empowering others
• Proven leadership skills in policy development , implementation and review
• An interest in leading innovations in the skills and practices of teaching
• An understanding of School Self Evaluation (SSE) and the development and implementation of the DEIS plan
• A clear understanding and knowledge of Special Education
• An awareness of facilitating Diversity , Equity and Inclusion
• A commitment to supporting and promoting the Catholic Ethos
• An understanding of the flexibility and adaptability required in meeting the changing needs of the school
